Riga, the capital of Latvia, is located on the Baltic Sea coast at the mouth of the Daugava River and has a population of circa 730,000. Latvia was the fastest growing economy in European Union in 2006 recording a GDP growth rate of 11.9% compared to an EU (27) average of 2.9%.
